A named competition within a larger program

ASDWA names the challenge in honour of its founder Ted Gaby and presents it as part of the Supreme program. This explains the relationship without erasing the challenge’s own identity. A program containing several classes and competitions needs separate result records. A dog’s challenge appearance should not be relabelled a Supreme Open win merely because the events occur together or share a sponsor.

State outcomes and individual outcomes

The association’s July 2024 newsletter explains the perpetual trophy as an award to the highest-scoring state. The result documentation also distinguishes individual contributions from a state total. Keep those units separate in a database and in prose. A state-team success can be credited to the confirmed participating partnership without inventing an individual championship placing or transferring the team’s aggregate to every dog’s personal score.

The Trans Tasman connection

ASDWA’s Trans Tasman overview explains the challenge’s role in selecting the Australian test team. Read the current selection material for the intended series; a general description is not enough to infer that a particular placing produced selection in every historical year. Confirm the actual team announcement and whether a person was a competitor, reserve, captain or manager before describing their international participation.

Researching an edition

Start with the Supreme edition’s program and the dedicated challenge results, preserving state, handler, dog and rounds where published. A draw establishes planned participation but not a completed run. If a result document contains both state and individual tables, retain the headings so readers can see which claim each supports. Media from the challenge needs its own creator credit and permission, even when an association has included it in a public gallery.

Common questions

Does a state trophy give every team member an individual title?

No. State and individual outcomes are different result units and should be described as published.
