Check the event brief

Ask the organiser about access, restricted areas and any media conditions. Work with stewards so you do not obstruct a course or distract livestock and dogs.

Record the run

Keep a run order or contemporaneous notes with image numbers. Confirm spelling and dog identity before publishing; coat colour alone is not reliable identification.

Deliver with context

Include event name, edition, class and date in the delivery metadata. Confirm licensing terms for organiser posts, sponsor use and individual print orders separately.

Avoid inferring a final placing from the moment photographed. Pair result claims with the official published record and identify provisional information clearly when preparing a rapid event gallery.

At a multi-class event, log class changes as well as run numbers. The same handler may compete with several dogs, and the same dog may appear in more than one session.

Make a useful gallery record

Organise a gallery by event edition and class where the evidence supports it. Keep filenames or image identifiers linked to the run notes so a later correction can be applied consistently. Separate official results from photographs made before results were finalised, and do not attach a winner label until the published record supports it. For commercial sales, explain delivery formats and permitted uses clearly. If the organiser or a sponsor wants a different use, confirm that separately instead of assuming a participant’s print order grants advertising rights.

Common questions

How should a gallery be organised for future research?

Keep event edition, class, run notes and stable image identifiers connected so a correction can be applied to the correct photographs.
