Preserve the original

Keep the dog name and handler name exactly as the result publisher supplied them, alongside a cleaned display form if needed. Do not replace the original string with a guessed registered name. Abbreviations, stud prefixes and transcription errors can all affect matching.

Corroborate a match

Use registration authority and number where legitimately available, then check compatible pedigree or owner information. Shared handlers and similar names are useful clues but do not prove identity. Two dogs with the same call name should remain separate until evidence supports merging.

Make corrections reversible

Record who or what established the match and retain the original source link. If a handler disputes an identification, review the supporting material and separate the records if necessary. A reversible correction process protects both historical results and current profile accuracy.
