A yard championship rather than a universal title

Keep the Australian Yard Dog Championship distinct from national three-sheep, Kelpie field and cattle championships. The shared word Australian does not put these different competitions into one scoring system. This series concerns yard-trial work, and an achievement should retain the event’s full name and class. A title in another discipline should not be translated into an equivalent yard placing, even when the same handler or dog competes in both.

National rules and the rotating host

National yard competition material is hosted by state associations, while the selected edition’s host supplies practical notices and results. Read the named rules together with the current schedule. A document’s hosting website is not necessarily its issuer, and a state that hosts one year is not automatically the permanent venue. For a visitor, the edition’s organiser should confirm access, nominations and media conditions before travel or publication.

What an honour roll establishes

NSWYDA’s historical results resources include a national championship honour roll. Such a list can document the reported winner, year and venue without supplying the full field or every round. Do not fill gaps by calculating imaginary placings from later newspaper references. A career summary can cite the stated championship result while explicitly limiting its coverage to the information published. Preserve original dog and handler spellings until identity matching is supported.

Build a more useful archive

An edition record should link the host notice, rules version and actual result publication, keeping provisional or corrected status where supplied. A draw is useful evidence of intended participation but not proof of a completed run. Where full results are unavailable, request them through the association rather than reproducing unrelated private newsletters wholesale. Photographs, logos and videos need their own rights trail, and a national sporting title does not imply endorsement of a breeder, seller or commercial service.

Common questions

Does the honour roll provide all entrants and rounds?

Not necessarily. Use it for the facts it actually states and seek edition results for deeper coverage.
