NSW Yard Dog Association: rules, results and getting involved

A guide to NSWYDA resources for yard dog triallers: rules, calendars, schools, newsletters, results and point scores.

At a glance

The NSW Yard Dog Association supports yard dog trialling in New South Wales. Its official website brings together rules, event information, training schools, newsletters and sporting records.

Purpose and background

Founded in October 1986, NSWYDA describes yard trialling through practical sheep handling: efficient movement, safety and stockmanship in confined yards. This gives a newcomer a useful way to watch a run. Look at how sheep travel through the facilities, how the dog responds and how the handler manages the task, rather than judging the performance only by speed or noise.

Find the right document

The association publishes separate yard and utility rule resources, alongside national association material, its constitution and conduct policies. Choose the document for the actual event. A membership form, event advertisement and rulebook answer different questions: who may participate, how to enter, and how a run is governed. Keep the event schedule with the rule version when preparing an entry.

Results, point scores and newsletters

The site separates individual historical results from seasonal point scores and also publishes newsletters. For research, start with the event name and year, then find the underlying result publication. A point-score position summarises a particular competition system; it should not be presented as a national ranking or a complete count of every run by a dog. Newsletter reports may add context that a compact table leaves out.

A useful first enquiry

Before contacting an organiser, identify whether you want to spectate, enter or attend a school. Give your experience level and ask which local opportunity suits it. Confirm spectator access, dog attendance, camping and entry arrangements directly for the selected date. This reference guide does not imply association endorsement of a trainer, seller or Working Dog account.
