Two authorities can recognise the same dog differently

ABCA’s FAQ states that its papers can form a basis for AKC registration while the reverse is not accepted as a basis for ABCA registration. That is a directional recognition statement, not a merged registry. The dog can have more than one identifier without those numbers becoming the same record. Preserve the authority, exact certificate and status for each entry. A general advertisement saying dual registered is incomplete if a particular future transaction depends on a specific registry’s rules.

The championship policy is a distinct rule

ABCA’s registration requirements explain its working-selection position and specify consequences for conformation championship status, including a date boundary in its published policy. Attribute that position to ABCA rather than presenting the association’s rationale as a universal scientific conclusion. Merely possessing another registration and being awarded a conformation championship are different events. Read the current requirements for an actual dog and seek confirmation from ABCA where eligibility or offspring registration matters. A summary should not decide a disputed case.

Accepted ancestry still needs its conditions

The requirements page describes categories of eligible ancestry and special cases, with different treatment for incomplete pedigrees or some merit registrations. An accepted organisation’s name does not mean every certificate it has ever issued is automatically sufficient. Retain the registry section and the actual ancestry records. This is particularly important for imported or historically transferred dogs, where a bare acronym can conceal the detail needed to interpret the record correctly.

Publish precise status without overstating it

A profile can show the sourced registration information and exact titles without turning either into a complete assessment of the dog. Keep application status, confirmed registration and a later title separate. For present decisions, consult current documents and the responsible registrar rather than relying on an old screenshot. Private transaction details need not be exposed to explain the public distinction. Accurate authority-specific records help readers understand working Border Collie systems without implying that every registry uses identical selection, naming or eligibility rules.

Common questions

Does AKC registration alone prove ABCA eligibility?

No. ABCA’s published rules do not accept AKC registration as the basis; consult ABCA about the actual ancestry and applicable category.
