A large entry and a twelve-dog final

The organiser’s October retrospective identifies Bevis Jordan as the 2024 judge and records 135 preliminary dogs, each with one run. Thirty advanced to the semifinal and twelve to the double-lift final. Scott Glen and six-year-old Pip won on 126, securing Glen’s fourth Meeker championship with four different dogs across the years. His other finalist Mist placed sixth. Those two dogs had different routes through the competition: Mist led the preliminary scoring on seventy-eight, while Pip reached the final after the third-highest semifinal score. The final therefore produced its own outcome rather than preserving the preliminary order.

Why the shed and pen mattered

A December profile gives Glen’s account of Pip’s final. He thought a mistake on the cross-drive might have cost the championship, but completing the shed and pen helped Pip finish ahead of runs that had looked stronger earlier on the course. This is a specific explanation from the handler, rather than a new scoring rule. Reserve champions Shauna Gourley and June also had a notable finish, receiving the International Shed award for their performance. Faansie Basson had two finalists as well, with Finn third and Jack fifth; Finn received the judge-selected Biggest Heart award.

Mist’s recognition belongs beside Pip’s title

The special-awards sheet records Mist for the highest preliminary score, the Terry Folsom Memorial Best Drive and Thursday’s Cowboy’s Lift. Those achievements demonstrate why a championship history should not erase dogs that excelled at other stages. The champion profile also notes that Glen and Pip missed the preceding Meeker edition while competing at the World Trial, giving context to their return. The sources are retrospective accounts of the 2024 event, not a promise of the next year’s entry system. They preserve the final result, the handler’s explanation and the separate work rewarded throughout the week.

Common questions

Did Mist win the 2024 championship because of the highest preliminary score?

No. Mist led the preliminaries and finished sixth in the final; Pip won the separately judged final.
