The final pauses for the weather

The organiser’s 2019 retrospective describes handlers and spectators waiting out difficult weather before competition resumed. Scott Glen and Taff became champions, while Dennis Edwards ran Roy in the final slot to finish reserve. Edwards had another dog, Coup, in the same final: that run came after the interruption and finished seventh. The sequence is part of what distinguishes this edition from a bare winners list. It explains how one handler managed two opportunities late in a disrupted day without implying that the weather affected every pairing in an identical or measurable way.

Roy had a strong week before the final

A separate organiser profile records Roy as Wednesday’s Top Dog and fourth in the overall preliminary ranking among 170 dogs. Roy then led Saturday’s semifinal before finishing reserve in the double-lift final. The article dates that Wednesday to 4 September 2019, even though the profile itself was published in February 2021. These different stages describe sustained performance across the meeting. They do not create a combined total or turn the semifinal lead into the final championship. The same profile quotes Edwards’s assessment of particularly difficult sorting sheep, which should remain a participant’s account rather than a universal ranking of trial difficulty.

The first preliminary run also reached the podium

Marianna Schreeder and Star finished third after having drawn the first preliminary run of the entire competition. This contrasts with Roy’s last position in the final and adds another specific thread to the event story. Glen’s winning dog was Taff, while the retrospective separately mentions his later success at another competition with Alice. Keeping those dogs and events distinct prevents an impressive season being compressed into one mixed result. The surviving accounts show a large field, changing conditions and several successful routes through the rounds, all culminating in the separate Meeker title won by Glen and Taff.

Common questions

Was the reserve profile’s 2021 publication the event date?

No. It is a later account of Roy’s performance at the 2019 Meeker Classic.
