Understanding the activity

Watch how a team manages entries, exits and waiting dogs. Contact a club for a staged introduction rather than copying a racing box movement from video.

Before attending or entering

Read the host’s schedule alongside the governing rulebook. Confirm the venue, entry deadline, registration requirements and whether spectators or non-competing dogs are permitted. Ask the trial secretary about anything the schedule leaves unclear.

Reading the record

A team result is not an individual dog result unless the published record identifies participating dogs. Keep team names and dog identities as separate records.

Credit the team correctly

A relay team may have a registered name different from its club name. Preserve both if the source provides them. Do not assign every dog listed on a club page to every team result; identify the published participating dogs or state that the individual lineup is not available.

Watch the relay sequence

The team setting is central: one dog’s outward and return run fits into a relay with other dogs and handlers. When watching, note the transitions and the controlled areas for waiting teams as well as the box turn. For equipment dimensions, race rules and registration, use the Australian Flyball Association’s current material rather than an improvised home setup. A public result should state the race meeting, division and team. If individual dog participation is not published, leave that field unresolved instead of guessing from the club roster.
