Three different winning partnerships

The 2016 event occupied Friday 26 and Saturday 27 August at Tal y Garth and Ty’n y Groes fields. Arwyn Davies of Bryneglwys won the Open with Meg; Allan Von Dinther of Whitchurch took the Novice with Tom; and Jo Lloyd of Pontfadog won the Local with Mac. John Lightfoot with Nan is separately listed for Best Conditioned Working Sheepdog. The four headings describe different awards, and the names should stay attached to their own categories. This edition therefore cannot be accurately summarised by selecting one dog name and calling it the winner of every dog activity at the show.

The agricultural show surrounding the trials

Katie Harold’s retrospective describes sunshine over the grounds and a record entry in the sheep competition. Its livestock results identify Alwyn Morris as the Welsh Mountain Hill Flock champion and Cyril Roberts as the Rare and Minority Breeds champion, illustrating distinct livestock sections alongside the dog work. The companion show had its own Best in Show, a Giant Schnauzer, while vintage tractors, local produce and crafts added further attractions. These details show the setting in which visitors watched the trial partnerships. A livestock or companion-show result is part of the event history, but is not a sheepdog performance award.

A community event with a precise surviving record

The society published both a narrative report and a complete results document. The narrative emphasises visitors and volunteers creating the atmosphere; the results retain the exact class labels and named winners. Reading the two together gives more information than a list of champions alone, without requiring invented weather measurements, scores or attendance totals. It also preserves the difference between a 2016 retrospective and current website navigation. Later schedules can explain the present society’s activities, but the historical claims on this page concern the documented August gathering and its actual results, not a reconstructed programme for another year.
