AHC30122: Certificate III in Agriculture for experienced farm work

A farm-tradesperson learning route with livestock or cropping choices and practical evidence relevant to station employment.

At a glance

AHC30122 Certificate III in Agriculture supports farm work across livestock, cropping and mixed enterprises. Its current packaging has substantial elective choice, so job seekers should explain their actual practical focus rather than assume every graduate has the same farm skills.

A farm role with broader responsibility

The register describes a general agricultural vocational outcome, allowing livestock production, cropping or both. It associates the farm-tradesperson role with experienced farmhand work across agricultural operations. Sixteen units are required: two core and fourteen electives. Safety and environmentally sustainable work form the core. Production records, livestock and crop activities, maintenance and other agricultural work appear through the elective structure. The learner’s chosen combination therefore deserves attention alongside the certificate level.

Discuss the livestock context explicitly

A sheep station, cattle property and mixed farm need different practical combinations. Ask the provider which livestock and production systems are available for assessment and how it supports learners already employed on a property. If working dogs are part of your goal, identify whether handling is taught, assessed or simply incidental to the farm environment. A photograph of dogs at the training property does not establish a formal stockdog training component in your own learning plan.

Compare experience with assessment requirements

Someone with existing farm work should prepare records describing tasks, frequency, responsibility and supervision. Discuss recognition of prior learning with the RTO without assuming time served is sufficient evidence for every unit. Someone newer to the industry should ask how practical learning progresses and what support is available when a task is unfamiliar. Establish who supplies assessment access and how seasonal activities are scheduled, especially if course attendance spans only part of a production cycle.

Make progression relevant to an employer

Use the transcript to connect learning with the role’s duties: maintaining a property system and coordinating an activity are different claims from managing the entire farm. Pair the qualification with references and specific examples of work completed. If a registered employment-based training arrangement is proposed, confirm it with the relevant state authority and provider. Neither the national code nor completion establishes an open station job, independent competence with all machinery or permission to bring your own dogs to work.

Common questions

Does Certificate III prove experience with every livestock species?

No. The qualification permits different agricultural contexts; use the transcript and practical experience to identify what was actually learned and assessed.
